SHOW REVIEW: Psychich Boots 03/08/12
In case you happened to miss the shop show on this past March 8th at Canvas Skate Shop, well, you sure did miss it!
The night opened with a magical Jamm Session that featured a myriad of wonderful local musicians (Slated to be a Monthly JAMM EVENT FREAK OUT @ CANVAS). The session was comprised of several local music lovers and players collaborating on tunes that went from smooth jazz licks to roaring melodies infused with sparse vocal additions by those who felt the pull to grab the mic. It was a glorious time indeed, fueled by the need to create and be a part of something spontaneous and wild, and, from the viewpoint of this observer/participant some mighty tasty jams went down. Thanks Jason Lipot, Nate Ratterman, Joel Woodson, Joey Jones, Casey Shelton, Mr. Wiley and the Crust gang, and all those others who gave in to the jamm and made it as fun as it was!
AND THEN...
The Psychic Boots from Pittsburgh PA, a rag-tag group of stooped humble geniuses disguised as mid nineties grunge rockers set up to play a bit of the noisiest psychedelia I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. The boys of the Boots began directing sounds at the expecting crowd in a fury. Their guitars gyrated almost as much as their hips, and the songs gave birth to waves of sound that undulated through the body ultimately causing everyone listening to groove along with the tunes.
This group, comprised of two guitarist Andrew and Josh who shared hollered vocal duties and deserve mondo front dude(s) props, a mighty bassist named Jon who held the whole floating bowl of fruit together splendidly, and the drums were provided by Max-a-million whose ability to flow with the current of the song form could combat with the ebb and flow of the mightiest oceans, needless to say the kid was good.
The Boots were a pleasure to watch and hear. They gave me faith that there can still be folks out there stretching the style of music artistry while keeping all the correct undertones and influences in tact. The Psychic Boots were stomping all over the place and their music was soaring in our tiny skate shop, and that, my friends, is a good thing. So, next time we say, "You don't want to miss this show!" you should probably listen and witness it for yourself...like I said earlier, if you missed this one, well, then, you missed a really good time and some really good tunes.
Thanks to the Psychic Boots and all who came out and played at the shop. We plan to do this monthly, so if you are interested in Jamming contact Will Jackson @ 336 786 2153 and leave a message!
Thanks for supporting small town culture...We're working on it!!
